CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu’s Apple Rubin notched her second victory within the twenty second ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2024, held in Vientiane, Laos.

The 14-year-old Rubin from Toledo Metropolis, Cebu, is competing within the Women-14 division. As the only real consultant from Cebu within the Philippine delegation, this event marks Rubin’s debut on the worldwide stage.

After 5 rounds, Rubin amassed 2.5 factors, with two wins, one draw, and two losses. Regardless of a setback within the fourth spherical towards Hoang Nguyen Giang, Rubin bounced again within the fifth spherical with an important win over Ngoc Lin Tram Tran, sustaining her aggressive edge.

Presently, Rubin is positioned ninth out of the 14 individuals, with the bulk being Vietnamese gamers. She is about to face Phuc Minh Huynh of Vietnam within the sixth spherical.

Her fellow Filipinos, Iana Angela Sotaridona is in fourth place with 3.0 factors, whereas Anica Shey Dimatangihan holds the twelfth spot with 1.5 factors.
